How to Compare Custom Packaging Quotes

A useful price comparison starts with the same written specification. Compare the product, one-time charges, sample scope, packing and delivery assumptions separately before deciding which quotation offers the better fit.

Use one specification for every quotation

Provide the same product type, dimensions, quantity per item or design, material, artwork and destination to each supplier. A change from an assembled rigid box to a folding carton, or from two-sided printing to one side, changes the product being priced.

For coordinated sets, list the box, bag, tissue, card, sticker and insert on separate lines. A price for one component should not be compared with a complete set price. Record what is included, excluded or awaiting confirmation.

Compare the items that affect the total

Separate recurring and one-time costs

The product unit price is only one part of the order. Sample development, tooling or setup may be separate charges. Ask whether a repeat order uses existing tooling and whether changes in size, artwork or material require new setup.

A planning calculation is: product quantity × confirmed unit price, plus separately charged setup, sampling, packing and delivery costs. Do not add a charge twice when it is already included. Record the currency and quote validity because a comparison made at different times may use different assumptions.

Compare freight using actual packing information

A rigid gift box and a flat-supplied carton can occupy very different amounts of space during shipment. Request quantity per carton, carton dimensions and gross weight. The transport provider then needs the destination and service requirements to prepare the freight quotation.

If a delivered price is offered, ask exactly which destination and charges it covers. Keep the product amount and delivery amount visible so you can compare them separately. A quote described only as “shipping included” leaves important details unresolved.

Reduce cost without losing the essential function

Start by identifying what the packaging must do: protect the product, fit a retail display, carry a defined load or create a particular gift presentation. Then compare changes one at a time.

  • Review whether excess empty space can be removed while retaining suitable fit.
  • Compare a simpler insert with the original arrangement.
  • Review fewer finishing operations or printed surfaces.
  • Compare available paper colors before specifying a custom color.
  • Review flat-supplied structures where they suit the product and packing workflow.

Any saving needs to be checked against appearance, assembly and protection. Avoid approving a cheaper specification before the changed sample has been reviewed.

Use the same approval checklist before ordering

Confirm the final artwork, size, material, print, finish, sample approval, packing and delivery scope against the selected quotation. Record any changes agreed after the first price was issued.

Wanxin Pack's standard MOQ is 500 pieces per item for most custom packaging. Different sizes or designs are reviewed separately, and special structures or materials may require higher quantities. Send the full component list for a comparison that shows where each cost comes from.
